SUPPORT ELECTRICAL AND COMMERCIAL BUILDING CODE UPDATES
The Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) is taking public comments on two code packages dealing with revisions to the state electrical code and the commercial building code. As currently drafted, these codes make sensible changes to both codes that do not price families out of housing options.
Other groups will be out in full force, asking for additions and modifications to both code packages that will increase the cost of housing for Wisconsin families and likely price them out of housing options.
NAHB reports show that 3820 families will be priced out of purchasing a new home when the price is increased by $1000, and, on average, regulations imposed by government at all levels account for 24.3% of the final price of a new single-family home built.
Please take a moment to use the enclosed link to send a quick message to DSPS supporting the adoption of these codes as currently drafted by the close of business on Thursday, February 2, 2017.
It is critical that all WBA members let their support be known for these sensible code revisions, so the code making process can move forward without additions or substantial revisions that increase the cost of housing.
Thank you for your efforts to pass sensible code revisions in 2017. SEND YOUR MESSAGE TO DSPS
